a note about colour
If you would like to see a painting in person before buying, you are very welcome to visit my studio in Edinburgh. Studio visits are available by appointment. Please get in touch to arrange a time.
I take great care to photograph my paintings so that the colours shown on this website are as accurate as possible. However, colours can vary between different monitors, screens and devices, so the colours you see may not exactly match the original artwork.
What brings collectors heRE
Collectors often choose a painting because it reflects somewhere meaningful for them - a harbour they know, a race remembered or simply the feeling of being near water.
Many begin with one piece and return as the story continues
Elspeth J Mackenzie
Edinburgh based artist
I paint Scotland's coast from the water's edge and from within it. My work is about presence and belonging - the quality of the light, the patience of the shore, the quiet ritual of a shoreline return.
I row a St Ayles Skiff out of Newhaven, which means I know these waters inside and out. Every painting begins with something I have felt before I try to show it.
Before you buy
-
How are originals shipped?
All works are carefully packaged and sent via tracked courier. Unframed works are rolled or flat-packed depending on size. Framed works are boxed with full corner protection. Shipping to mainland UK is included in the price.
-
Can I order a frame?
Yes - most works are available framed to order in a simple natural wood or painted white/black finish that suits coastal interiors. Get in touch to discuss options and cost before purchasing.
-
What is your returns policy?
If a painting isn't right when it arrives, contact me within 7 days and I'll arrange a return and full refund. The work must be returned in its original condition. I want you to love what you own.
-
Do you take commissions?
Yes - commissions are welcome, particularly for specific locations on the Firth of Forth or Edinburgh coast. Get in touch with your ideas and I'll let you know if it's something I can take on.
